this morning

gardenia scent tickles her nose as she writes and drinks "early" grey
washtub blossoms from plants kept in Roy's basement every winter
though he's newly married to Jerona, her father's mother
it's Mary Agnes, her mom's mother the aroma conjures
Grandma grew those sweet flowers in memory of her own dear mom
four generations later they still cast their magical spell
she ponders - not just rosemary is for remembrance - she smiles
