All Praise to the Watermelon Ball

"Silliness is very important."

Isn't it amazing how wise children are?!? My friend, Nora - who was a wee thing at the time, three or four years old, I believe - said this to her Auntie Sarah who shared it with me. I try to live up to Nora's motto and be a little silly everyday. Some days there's more silliness than others and other days it's all about the silliness. On those days you might wanna take cover if you have to be around me.

Anyway, here's a little silliness that I wrote after our first music library bowling outing. I like to plan a couple of outside-the-library fun events each semester and this was our very first one. By the end of the night almost all of us were sharing this one amazing ball. I was so inspired that I went home and scratched this out while I watched an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. (Yeah, I'm a geek.)

All Praise to the Watermelon Ball

Watermelon Ball
Oh Watermelon Ball
So green, marblely, and round.

Watermelon Ball
Fair Watermelon Ball
Your beauty has me all wound.

Watermelon Ball
Fine Watermelon Ball
‘Fore you low scores I was bound.

Watermelon Ball
Sweet Watermelon Ball
Yes! Now some pins I have downed.

Watermelon Ball
Kind Watermelon Ball
I’m so glad that you I found.

Watermelon Ball
Keen Watermelon Ball
When you hit the lane – sweet sound!

Watermelon Ball
Dear Watermelon Ball
You gorgeous sphere of ‘leven pound.

Watermelon Ball
Swell Watermelon Ball
Lots of pins now in a mound.

Watermelon Ball
My Watermelon Ball
Soon you’ll make me a strike hound.

Tee hee, silliness is very important... Thanks, Nora.
